THE ARTQUEST PROGRAM
ArtQuest…is an award-winning public
school program for students for whom creativity and artistic
expression is of paramount importance.
In the heart of artistically rich and diverse Sonoma County,
ArtQuest offers an “above and beyond” experience in the Visual and Performing Arts. At ArtQuest, the passion, commitment and discipline of the Arts is connected to the energy of academic study; inspired by guest artists; enlarged by meaningful off-site visits, exhibits and performances; enriched by its proximity
to Santa Rosa Junior College, the Santa Rosa Community Media Center and numerous nearby cultural organizations;
and nurtured by generous parent, community and business support.
ArtQuest is a place where students, from all over Sonoma
County and beyond, come together as young artists to exhibit, perform and begin to build their dreams into realities; and to pursue artful lives, wherever they may lead...

ARTQUEST CORE CLASSES
Special ArtQuest-Designated Core Classes may be requested and are connected to the Visual and Performing
Arts, with Core and Arts teachers collaborating through an annual program-wide theme, as well as within
individual lessons or units. Recognizing the importance of critical thinking, creative problem solving, and the
need to understand and communicate in many arenas; the classes are designed to support learning in
multifaceted, engaging ways and students are encouraged to incorporate their Arts Specialty into Core Class
projects and presentations.
Curriculum is aligned with the California State Subject Matter Frameworks and Standards and the local Content and Performance Standards. Diverse learning styles are addressed, using a variety of teaching strategies including direct instruction, reading, writing, discussions, oral presentations, films, individual and group work, guest artists, field trips and other arts-based projects and methods. ArtQuest Academic and Honors English classes offer a challenging literature-based curriculum featuring varied viewpoints. ArtQuest Academic World History students examine major turning points of the modern world from the late eighteenth century to the present and focus on understanding historical events from a variety of perspectives and cultural stances. Although not formally designated as ArtQuest sections, students can also request the ArtQuest participating instructor for Math classes which incorporate the annual theme and creative projects into the curriculum.
Santa Rosa High School offers many other options as well, including additional Honors and Advanced Placement classes and a full range of Science, Math, Foreign Language, Agriculture and Vocational classes. SRHS students’ SAT scores are consistently high, being the highest in the Santa Rosa City Schools District for 11 of the past 12 years and very often the highest in Sonoma County. Students may also enroll for classes at the adjacent campus of Santa
Rosa Junior College and may join and use the Santa Rosa Media Center, a public access television production facility located on the high school campus. Guest artists, exciting field trips, and exhibit and performance opportunities are all a regular part of the overall curriculum at ArtQuest.
